Botox 101
As we age, our skin tends to change. Our bodies start to produce less collagen, and this becomes visible in our faces, especially when we move. This is perhaps most visible when we laugh or smile. Wrinkles, fine lines, and other imperfections can be seen at these moments than this can make you appear older.
There are several ways to care for your skin and give yourself a refreshed and revitalized appearance. One of the most popular and most successful is Botox. It has been used for many years to help people look younger and to treat certain medical conditions.
This quick and convenient procedure is safe and effective when performed by an experienced and knowledgeable professional.
What is Botox and How Does it Work?
Botox injections are designed to block certain signals from getting to your muscles. In particular, the signals that tell muscles to contract. The purpose is to relax the muscles so that dynamic wrinkles do not form.
Dynamic wrinkles are ones that become visible when your face moves. For example, think about the lines that form around your eyes when you smile, the wrinkles that appear on your forehead when you wince, or those that are visible around your mouth when you speak.
The question “what is Botox?” is a common one, and unfortunately there are many misconceptions about the treatment. It does not prevent your face from having expression and it will not completely change your appearance. Instead, it will make your face look smoother, more relaxed, and younger.
Does Botox Hurt?
Typically, most people do not feel much discomfort when getting a Botox injection. That’s because a very thin and fine needle is used during the process. You may feel a slight stinging or pinching, but nothing that could be considered serious pain.
In some cases, creams or other methods to numb the area may be used to decrease the sensations of the procedure.
How Long Does it Last?
Botox is not permanent. Over time, it will break down and be absorbed by the body. When this happens, your muscles will regain normal movement and you will need additional treatments to maintain the effect.
Typically, Botox usually lasts at least three months and sometimes longer. The specific length of time will depend on the individual and how quickly their body metabolizes the Botox.
What Can I Expect After my Appointment?
It typically does not take very long to get a Botox treatment. The number of injections and the amount of time needed will depend on your situation and the size of the area being treated. However, it usually takes only a few moments.
There is no lengthy after care process required when you receive Botox and you will be able to go back to your regular activities quite quickly. However, it’s important that you do not massage or rub the treated area for at least 24 hours. Rubbing can cause the Botox to spread into other areas and provide an undesired effect.
You should expect to see the effects of the treatment within one to three days. When you come into Revitalize Aesthetics MedSpa, we will make sure you know the best way to care for yourself and your skin following the Botox procedure.
What’s the Ideal Age to Start Using Botox?
While many people only think about using Botox as they age, the reality is that preventative Botox treatments when you are younger may have greater effect. If you start to use Botox in your mid-to-late 20s or early 30s, before you have significant wrinkles and lines, you can prevent them from developing in the first place.
